Meet the Artist - Marion Duncan

Marion Duncan was born in 1949 and she loves life! In her own words, "I grew up in the south east of England near the sea, the only girl in a family of six children. Even though my first love was painting and drawing, i found myslef being steered more to academia and ended up with an education degree.I taught middle school in Essex and then elementary school in North London. I travelled to Germany, Malta, Italy, Seychelles, Scotland and Wales before settling down. I went from being a single, theatre attending, museum visiting, socializing teacher in London, England to being a a dairy farmer's wife with five children in Canada in the space of just under four years.

English Canal Boat Paintings

In Victorian England a canal system was used to transport goods from producer to the manufacturer. The boats were only seven feet wide and forty feet long. This is where the baotman and his family lived. Not having a garden to tend to or a house to decorate, it was instead, a matter of pride to hae the most ornamentally decorated boat, along with as many pots, pans, wooden water buckets, all painted in as bright and pretty style as possible.

The most common designs included castles and roses.
